Official announcement: Chiefs withdraw from cup competition

Kaizer Chiefs fans around the Ulundi area are facing distressing news.

The club known as Amakhosi has officially withdrawn from the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup 2025, citing CAF Confederation Cup commitments as the reason.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO MISS THE PRINCE MANGOSUTHU LEGACY CUP

The fast-growing tournament, which was first marked for 11 October before being postponed due to Amakhosi’s travel demands, was rescheduled for 16 November. Unfortunately, that date now clashes with the Soweto giants’ African journey, forcing the club to pull the plug.

The difficult decision was confirmed by Kaizer Chiefs chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung. “This difficult decision has been necessitated by unforeseen changes to our international fixture calendar,” he explained. “As a club with a proud history on the continent, our commitments to CAF competitions must take precedence. The revised schedule leaves us unable to participate without compromising our performance.”

NEW REPLACEMENT

Kaizer Chiefs’ withdrawal means Richards Bay FC will now step in as replacements, joining AmaZulu FC, Njampela FC, and Eswatini champions Nsingizini Hotspurs FC in the one-day showpiece.

The new semi-final lineup will see Richards Bay face Hotspurs at 12:00, while AmaZulu meet Njampela at 09:00.

Despite the setback, organisers expressed understanding and gratitude toward all clubs involved.
Zululand District Mayor Cllr Michael Khumalo said: “While we are disappointed by Kaizer Chiefs’ withdrawal, we remain committed to delivering a memorable event that honours the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s legacy” Khumalo concluded.
