  • Nissan recalls 1665 Qashqai SUVs over a potential fuel pipe defect that could cause leaks.
  • Affected vehicles were sold nationwide between May 2021 and October 2024.
  • NCC urges owners to visit authorised dealerships for free inspections and repairs.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced the product recall of 1665 Nissan Qashqai Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) due to a potential safety issue involving the fuel pipe.

This follows a notification from Nissan South Africa, which affects vehicles that were distributed nationwide from 4 May 2021 to 17 October 2024.

According to Nissan, during engine operation, the fuel pipe may move within its retaining clip in the engine bay, which could cause wear and tear over time.

In some cases, this wear could result in a perforation of the fuel pipe, posing a risk of fuel leaks.

“The success of the recalls depends on the immediate response by owners of these vehicles.  The NCC urges consumers to take affected vehicles to the nearest authorised dealership for inspection and necessary repairs, at no cost to the consumer,” said Acting Commissioner Mr. Hardin Ratshisusu.

Kaya News reports that this is the third vehicle recall in October alone, involving several carmakers, with a total of 19 recall notices issued since June.
