Nine-hour water shutdown in Cape Town starts Tuesday

Planned maintenance in parts of Cape Town will result in water supply interruptions.

The maintenance work will be conducted from Tuesday, 11 November.

CAPE TOWN CONFIRMS NINE-HOUR WATER OUTAGE

The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Vredekloof East – BrackenfellThe City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply on Welgeleë Road, Welkom Road, George Road, and the surrounding areas in Vredekloof East on Tuesday, 11 November, from 09:00 until 18:00.

This will enable the maintenance team to safely upgrade a section of the water supply main to the area. Residents will experience no water during this period. A water tanker will be made available to provide water where required, the municipality said.

Golden Acre, Land En Zeezicht, Nature Valley, and Morningside in Bizweni – Somerset West – Water supply to these areas and possibly the immediate surrounds will be temporarily shut off on Wednesday, 12 November, from 10:00 until 18:00, to install an additional bulk water meter on the water supply main to these areas. These areas will experience no water during this period.

Part of Woodstock – Similarly, water supply will be temporarily shut off from Hyde Street to Sir Lowry Road between Searle Street and Russel Street including Chapel Street, Gray Street, St. Phillips Street, Frances Street, Pontac Street, Nelson Street and possibly immediate surrounds on Wednesday, 12 November, from 09:00 until 18:00 when a bypass connection will be installed to accommodate the upgrade of the roadways in the area. Sun ValleyThe City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be commissioning the Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV)  on the water supply main to Sun Valley on Thursday, 13 November, from 9:30 until 16:00.

“The work involves doing a series of simulation exercises that will enable the maintenance team to assess the optimal settings for the PRV. Consumers will experience pressure fluctuations during this period and are advised to store enough water in advance in clean sealed containers where / if required,” the City of Cape Town said.
