Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated after almost two decades of marriage, but the decision to split wasn’t mutual at all.
The pair tied the knot back in 2006 after meeting in 2005, and over the years, they’ve often spoken about how quickly they fell for each other. Keith once said Nicole was “the one [he’d] been searching for [his] whole life.” While Nicole admitted she knew he was the love of her life after he surprised her with flowers for her 38th birthday, just a few months into dating.
Now, according to TMZ, the couple have been living apart since the beginning of summer. Keith has moved into his own place in Nashville, while Nicole has stayed in their family home with their daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
And sources told E! News that it was Keith who wanted out. Nicole didn’t actually want to separate. And she has been trying hard to keep the marriage going, even while Keith’s been busy touring.

The news of their breakup dropped just three months after Nicole Kidman posted a super sweet anniversary message on Instagram. On 25 June, she shared a cosy picture of the pair with his guitar and captioned it, “Happy Anniversary Baby.”
But by July, people started pointing out signs that things weren’t great. Nicole applied for residency in Portugal, and Keith’s name wasn’t on the form. At the time, a source explained that it was just because he couldn’t make the appointment since he was on tour in the U.S., and he’d apply later.
The last time they were actually seen out together was in June at a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville. Nicole was photographed alongside Keith in the stands watching Los Angeles Football Club take on Esperance de Tunis.
Since then, Nicole’s been looking after the kids at home, while Keith’s carried on with his High and Alive world tour. He’s already played dates across the U.S. and is due to perform in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on 2 October.
Nicole is also mum to Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, from her marriage to Tom Cruise. And she and Keith have spent most of their relationship based in Nashville. They raised their daughters away from the Hollywood spotlight.
So far, neither of them has said anything publicly about the split. And it’s not clear if they are heading for a divorce.
