National Treasury invites South African unemployed graduates to apply for the Internship Programme 2026–2028.

This structured internship programme offers graduates an opportunity to gain practical work experience across various divisions within National Treasury, while enhancing their skills and employability in the public finance sector.


Overview of the National Treasury Internship Programme

The 24-month internship is aimed at unemployed South African graduates and postgraduates who have completed relevant qualifications and have not previously participated in any internship programme.

Interns will be placed in different Chief Directorates and divisions, including:

  • Asset & Liability Management
  • Budget Office
  • Corporate Services
  • Economic Policy & International Cooperation
  • Intergovernmental Relations
  • Office of the Accountant-General
  • Office of the Chief Procurement Officer
  • Office of the Director-General
  • Office of the General Counsel
  • Public Finance
  • Tax & Financial Sector Policy

All posts are based in Pretoria and carry the same annual stipend.

Minimum General Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be unemployed South African citizens
  • Have a relevant Diploma, Degree, Honours or Masters in the specific field
  • Not have previously been employed in any internship programme
  • Be willing to commit to the full 24-month period in Pretoria
