The National Bioproducts Institute (NBI) invites South African unemployed youth to apply for the NBI Youth Employment Service (Y.E.S) Programme 2026.

About the NBI Youth Employment Service Programme
NBI is a leading African manufacturer of high-quality therapeutic proteins and diagnostic products, driven by its purpose to improve patient health and quality of life.
Through this 12-month Y.E.S Programme, NBI provides unemployed youth with valuable hands-on work exposure in a world-class biopharmaceutical production environment.
Participants will work alongside Process Technicians, Fractionators, and Pooling Technicians, gaining exposure to essential manufacturing processes that contribute to lifesaving plasma-derived medicines.
Minimum Requirements
To apply, candidates must:
- Be South African citizens aged 18–34 years
- Be currently unemployed and not studying full-time
- Have Grade 12 with minimum D marks in:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Biology
- Have no more than 2 years of work experience
- Not have participated in a Y.E.S Programme before
- Commit to the full 12-month programme
- Added advantages:
- Pharmacist Assistant Training (Basic or Post Basic)
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Life Sciences
Duties & Responsibilities
SHE Requirements
- Pre-employment, routine, and exit medicals (mandatory)
- Attend all SHE-related training
- Strict adherence to SHE instructions and site rules
- Use of PPE due to hazardous and biologically active chemicals
Operational Requirements
Participants must be willing to work in a 24/7 operation with rotating shifts:
- 12-hour shifts (06:00–18:00 or 18:00–06:00), Monday–Sunday
- OR 8-hour shifts as rostered between 06:00–18:00
- Overtime, weekend, and public holiday work may be required
Workplace Responsibilities Include:
- Equipment preparation and maintenance
- Sampling and quality checks
- Completing documentation and following SOPs
- Cleanroom practices and safety compliance
