Multiple Cape Town beaches earn Blue Flag Status for 2025/26

The City of Cape Town has announced that several of its beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status once again for the upcoming 2025/26 season, a global mark of excellence for environmental and safety standards.

The official announcement was made at the annual Blue Flag Awards Ceremony held in Port Alfred yesterday, 31 October.

The prestigious accreditation is coordinated locally by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) and involves an international evaluation process.

Cape Town beaches shine at Blue Flag Awards

The following Cape Town beaches earned Blue Flag recognition for the 2025/26 season:

  • Bikini Beach
  • Camps Bay
  • Clifton 4th
  • Fish Hoek
  • Llandudno
  • Melkbosstrand
  • Muizenberg
  • Silwerstroomstrand

The Blue Flag programme celebrates beaches that meet strict international standards in water quality, environmental management and education, safety, and public amenities.

“We are extremely delighted to be awarded with Blue Flag status at eight of our beaches. Not only do Blue Flags ensure a high standard of services, but we also put a high premium on beach safety, especially during the busy Festive Season.” Councillor Francine Higham, Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health said in a statement.

The Blue Flag season runs from 1 December 2025 to 28 February 2026, during which all accredited beaches will display the iconic flag as a sign of excellence.
