Dobby serves the Malfoy family, who treat him cruelly, but is freed after receiving a sock as a gift.
Mr Jones said: “I get sent S&M photos to sign — people wanting me to be a good Dobby.
“I also get sent socks from strangers.”
He added: “People really love that character.
“You never know what will arrive in the post.”
Toby, who also starred in ITV series Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, will take to the stage next month in Othello at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.
He said: “I’m terrified because it’s Othello.
“It’s a big thing to do and it’s right to be terrified, it would be really boring not to be terrified.
“It’s a good feeling that I have to befriend in some way.”
Jones was speaking at the SCAD Film Festival in Lacoste, France.
