The Moramaga family will face the 38-year-old man accused of killing two cousins in Mamelodi.
The suspect, arrested on Monday, will make his first appearance in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 October.
A video outside the court shows relatives speaking to the media, expressing grief and calling for justice.
Arrest Following Joint Police Operation
Gauteng police arrested the suspect at a filling station in Pretoria after a coordinated operation involving multiple police units.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that officers discovered the bodies of the victims in Mamelodi East Extension 1, both with gunshot wounds to the head.
“A double murder investigation has been opened,” he said.
Witnesses reported seeing the cousins arguing with a man they knew before the shooting.
The Ministry in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities commended the arrest, highlighting the severity of the case and the urgent need for justice.
Mamelodi murder victims remembered as close cousins
Police identified the victims as 22-year-old Tshiamo Moramaga and her 21-year-old cousin, Baleseng Moramaga.
They reportedly lived together in a rented room in Mamelodi. Their deaths have left a deep sense of grief among neighbours and family members.
A video circulating on social media showed the two cousins lying on the side of the road in Mahube Valley.
Women for Change, a non-profit organisation, urged the public not to reshare the graphic images.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of two more beautiful souls,” the group said. Calling for respect and sensitivity toward the victims’ families.
