South Africa’s political landscape is set for a dramatic reshuffle after three opposition parties—Rise Mzansi, Build One South Africa (BOSA), and the GOOD Party—announced they have officially merged to form a single, brand-new political entity: Unite for Change.

The move is considered a historic realignment of political forces, aimed at strengthening their collective position ahead of next year’s Local Government Elections (LGE). The leaders of the respective parties stated that by joining forces, they stand a significantly better chance of making an impact and offering a compelling alternative to voters.

Speaking shortly after the announcement, former BOSA leader and now a key figure in the new movement, Mmusi Maimane, provided insight into the party’s foundations on Drive 959.

Outlining the vision for the merger of the parties Maimane spoke about the importance of unity and ensuring the best candidates are chosen to represent the people.

“More than anything, The full fundamental focus is what happens the local government… I think what we’ve got to focus on is to say to ourselves, let’s select the best mayor. Let’s select the best candidates and we inviting more South African to be participants in the change.” said Maimane

Maimane detailed what Unite for Change will champion, stating the party is focused on transforming South African politics and providing clear, unified direction for the nation’s municipalities.
