MK Party plans to push for another no confidence vote against Ntuli

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s Head of Presidency, Magasela Mzobe, says the party will push for another no-confidence vote against the KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli next year.

This comes after the party’s first motion of no confidence against Ntuli failed on Monday at the provincial legislature in Pietermaritzburg.

Mzobe spoke during an interview with SABC News on Thursday.

“We want to take the government. It’s clear from what we’re saying that we’ll go to court. But I can tell you, we’re coming back next year with a vote of no confidence.” he said.

The MK Party accused Ntuli of misusing State funds and poor governance.

The party holds 37 seats in the legislature, and needed 41 supporting votes for the motion to be successful.

However, the Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party(IFP), the African National Congress (ANC) and the National Freedom Party (NFP) representative in the legislature, Mbali Shinga, rejected the motion with 40 votes.

Mzobe claims the MK Party is being excluded from governing KZN, despite winning the most votes in last year’s provincial elections.

Ntuli was appointed as a premier through a coalition that includes, ANC, the DA, the IFP and the NFP.

The MK Party persists with its demand for a secret ballot

Mzobe says the party plans to go to court to force Madam Speaker Nontembeko Boyceto to grant a secret ballot.

This is after Boyceto turned down the party’s request for the vote to be conducted by secret ballot.

Mzobe says the political killings in the province justify the party’s demand for a secret ballot in the provincial legislature.

“The lawyers are looking at it. We’ll probably look at going to court to force the speaker to grant a secret ballot based on the possible threat to the lives of political leaders in KZN “ he said.

The MK Party and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members disrupted the voting session after the speaker’s ruling. The members further clashed with the police after the motion was squashed.

It is reported that one MK Party member was injured in the scuffle.

The speaker also reported that some of the MK Party members attacked and blocked her from exiting the legislature.
