MILLIONS of households face higher bills as five water companies will be allowed to raise their bills by more than expected.
The companies had appealed to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to ask for permission to raise bills higher than allowed previously by the industry regulator, Ofwat.
Anglian Water, Northumbrian Water, South East Water, Southern Water, and Wessex Water were the companies that raised appeals.
The CMA has now decided they can raise bills by between 1% and 5% more than previously granted.
Anglian and Northumbrian can increase their bills by a further 1%, Southern by 3%, South East by 4% and Wessex by 5%.
