About the Internship
The Kumkani Mhlontlo Local Municipality, located in the Eastern Cape, is offering an excellent opportunity for unemployed graduates to gain practical experience through its Finance Internship Programme.
There are three (3) available internship positions within the Budget and Treasury Office. The programme will run for three (3) years, providing interns with valuable work exposure aligned with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).
This initiative forms part of the municipality’s commitment to promoting youth empowerment, employment equity, and inclusion—particularly encouraging applications from women and persons with disabilities.
Internship Details
- Department: Budget and Treasury Office
- Position: Finance Intern (x3)
- Duration: 3 Years (Fixed-Term Contract)
- Annual Salary: R90,000 – R100,000 per annum
- Station: Qumbu
This structured training programme gives interns hands-on exposure to municipal budgeting, expenditure monitoring, and asset management—developing the skills necessary for a professional career in public finance.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Three-year National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:
- Accounting
- Auditing
- Internal Auditing
- Economics
- Economics & Econometrics
- Risk Management
- Business Studies
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will assist with:
- Budgeting: Preparing and maintaining municipal budgets.
- Budget Monitoring: Monitoring revenue and expenditure against approved budgets.
- Asset Management: Assisting with verification and maintenance of municipal assets.
Interns will gain comprehensive knowledge and technical experience in local government finance operations, ensuring readiness for roles in the public finance sector.
