Mbesuma: What current Kaizer Chiefs strikers lack

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma has given a brutal assessment of the quality of Amakhosi forwards.

The Soweto giants have brought in four strikers this season but have continued to struggle for goals. Only Flavio Silva has looked clinical in front of goals, but has not been a regular since signing for the club in July.

Chiefs have had a good season so far despite getting knocked out of the Carling Knockout Cup early.

Speaking on SoccerBeat, Mbesuma said Kaizer Chiefs coaches were undecided on their number one striker.

“Supporters are expecting a lot based on previous players because we set the bar,” he said.

“When a striker comes, he has to have a presence and defenders need to fear you know. I have seen the strikers play one or two games, and then they are out [of the team]. There is no hunger.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker said the chopping and changing of strikers indicated that the club lacks confidence in its forwards. “Ntofontofo” also felt the attackers lacked hunger for goals and desire to win matches for the team.

“I don’t see hunger, I don’t see strikers who want to win. They are not good enough, that’s why after six months they always bring in a new striker,” Mbesuma added.

Who is Kaizer Chiefs’ main striker?

In January, Amakhosi signed Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport, but the 31-year-old striker failed to fire when given a chance. Khanyisa Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro and Silva were signed this season as the club looks to improve their goalscoring.

Silva has impressed wth four goals but he is still not a starter for the Soweto giants. Mayo was touted as Kaizer Chiefs’ main striker, but injuries have halted his progress at the club, despite scoring on his debut.
