Although the ITV show ended in 2022, actor Martin has joined the new US remake.
He will be playing the dad of Dr. Martin Best (Josh Charles), based on his original character.
Titled Best Medicine, the one-hour FOX series follows illustrious surgeon Martin as he abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston.
Having become the GP in quaint fishing town Port Wenn, his blunt bedside manner soon alienates the locals.
Clunes’ new character, Dr. Robert Best, is an accomplished gastroenterologist.
In fact, Robert’s own abrasive behaviour is far more severe than his son’s.
With his arrival putting everyone on edge, Robert is hiding secrets of his own.
Martin Clunes is only nine years older than on-screen son Josh in real life.
As it happens, this is not the only family link Clunes has to the US remake.
His wife, Phillipa Braithwaite, is an EP and also produced the original UK version.
Lead actor Josh has previously starred in The Good Wife, where he played Will Gardner.
Earlier in his career, Josh starred opposite Robin Williams and Ethan Hawke in Dead Poets Society.
Annie Potts, Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra and Cree also star in Best Medicine.
The Sun previously told how Doc Martin would be getting a US revamp.
The synopsis added that Martin Best would have to win over the Port Wenn locals, while dealing with a phobia and his own psychological issues.
