The list was compiled by CCTV operator training provider Get Licensed, based on stats from the Office for National Statistics.

Westminster in central London has the highest current annual crime rate at 423.2 incidents reported per 1,000 people.

It’s home to many iconic landmarks and tourist traps, such as Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

Huge numbers of tourists visiting the city are targeted by pickpockets and criminals every year, meaning the location is consistently at the top of the list.

However, the figures show year-on-year the borough’s crime rate is dipping by 5.09% and its re-offending rate is 24.91% – the lowest of any in the top 10.

It is actually Camden, in North West London, which tops the list despite having a lower overall crime rate of 194.8 per 1,000 population in the latest 12 month period.

Its re-offending rate is 30.75% and its year-on-year change saw an increase of 3.67%.

The area has higher rates of public order offences than the national average, which includes harassment, riots and violent disorder.

Westminster sits fourth overall, behind Islington in North London, and Nottingham.

The rest of the top 10 is rounded off by Bristol, Blackpool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Leicester and Manchester.

For every 100,000 people in Britain, there are over 30 reports of violence against a person.

Blackpool doubles this figure, while Middlesbrough, Bradford, Manchester, Kingston upon Hull and Westminster all report over 50%.

The sexual offence rate in Britain stands at 3.2 reports per 100,000 people – though nearly 45% of local authorities had higher sexual rates than the average.
