Man Utd ‘make contact with Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike as they rival Chelsea for £85million transfer’

MANCHESTER UNITED have made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt to register an interest in Hugo Ekitike, according to reports.

Liverpool and Chelsea are also thought to be interested in the 22-year-old striker, who has four years left on his deal.

Manchester United have entered the race for Hugo Ekitike

According to Sky Germany, the Red Devils have “made contact” with the Bundesliga side.

It is understood United are exploring the conditions of a potential deal for Ekitike with Frankfurt demanding around £85m (€100m).

It won’t be an easy deal to get over the line with Chelsea also thought to be in the running to sign the French bagsman.

Ekitike, who scored 15 goals and registered eight assists in the league this season before helping Frankfurt secure Champions League football with a third place finish, won’t come cheap.

United have already splashed £62.5million on out-and-out No.9 Matheus Cunha, who was formally announced today.

But as they continue their rebuild under Ruben Amorim, United will likely dip their toe in the market for another goalscorer this summer following a horror campaign that featured just 44 goals in 38 Premier League games.

The news around United and Ekitike comes after it emerged that Arsenal made their first concrete bid for wantaway Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

A report from Portuguese publication Record claims the Gunners made an offer for the 27-year-old Swede at a meeting in Spain on Wednesday.

United desperately need attacking reinforcements, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee having endured a poor campaign at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of names, including Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Liam Delap, who has already joined Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Premier League champions Liverpool registered their interest in Ekitike in May, but the long-running saga over a move for Florian Wirtz means a move to Anfield is still on the table.

The Reds are making tweaks with rumours that Darwin Nunez could be swapping Merseyside for the Middle East this summer.

United must raise funds by selling players before sanctioning further incomings beyond Cunha.

Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are among the first-team players in the shop window as Amorim hosts a summer clearout.

But no European commitments offers United the opportunity to trim the squad without necessarily requiring replacements, which should spark a ruthless approach to exits.
