Makgopa and Maswanganyi take Pirates top of the log past Sundowns

Evidence Makgopa and Patrick Maswanganyi found the net on either side of the break as Orlando Pirates downed Durban City 2-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The three points see the Sea Robbers sail to the top of the league, jumping ahead of defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, with 28 and 25 points respectively.

BETWAY PREMIERSHIP: DURBAN CITY 0-2 ORLANDO PIRATES

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou made four changes after the midweek 2-0 win over Chippa United in Soweto. Playmaker Patrick Maswanganyi was given the nod ahead of Sipho Mbule, while Deon Hotto, Lebone Seema and Yanela Mbuthuma made way for Nkosikhona Ndaba, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Evidence Makgopa.

Makgopa opened the scoring with a cool finish after an inch-perfect pass from Mofokeng from the left. Maswanganyi sealed the result with a well-placed left shot, thanks to wonderful interchanges involving Mofokeng, Ndaba and Apppolis.

With 12 games played, the Buccaneers have clocked nine wins, a draw and only two defeats. Ouaddou’s men are unbeaten in 10 games, including nine consecutive victories, netting 18 goals and conceding just five in their 12 outings.
