MAFS UK’s Keye bravely opens up about the moment he tried to ‘end his own life’ in 2024

MAFS UK’s Keye Luke, who is married to Davide Anica, has bravely opened up about the moment he almost died by suicide exactly one year ago this month.

Speaking in an emotional new Instagram post, the 33-year-old said: “One year ago today, I didn’t think I’d still be here. One year ago today, I tried to end my life. I didn’t think I’d laugh again, love again or ever feel like me again. But life has this quiet way of surprising you.”

He then went on to discuss how incredible the last year has been, saying he found “real love, “family” and “the most beautiful collection of human beings I’ve ever met”, assumedly referring to his MAFS co-stars. Keye hasn’t opened up about his attempted suicide on the show.

“And I’m so grateful and thankful to have them in my life. I found purpose, and most of all a version of myself I didn’t even know existed. A version I thought had died a really, really long time ago. The boy who almost gave up, became the man who shows up, not just for everyone else, but for me. I show up for me as well. And I do it loudly, proudly, and always with a little bit of sparkle,” he continued.

Keye shared hope to anyone else currently struggling with their mental health: “So, I guess on the anniversary of a year to the day, a year that wouldn’t have existed had I not pushed through. Anyone who is in that dark place right now, please hold on. You’re not broken, you’re becoming. One year later, I’m still here. Still laughing, still loving, and honestly, I am just getting started.”

In the caption, the MAFS groom said this is one of the “hardest” things he’s ever said out loud and it’s “not easy to talk about,” but he wants to because “someone out there might need to hear it”.

“You’re not alone, even when it feels impossible. There’s always help, and there’s always hope, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now,” Keye added before sharing information on where to get help if you are struggling with your mental health.

He added: “You matter. You are loved. And the world is better with you in it.”

If you need someone to speak to, you can contact the Samaritans by calling 116 123 from any phone. It’s free, and they are available 24/7.
