People have accused Married at First Sight UK’s Sarah Gillanders of “fat shaming” her loveable husband Dean Vary, who is just about the nicest person to have ever graced those infamous couches.
When MAFS UK season 10 kicked off earlier this month, the first couple we were introduced to was Dean and Sarah. From the moment Dean turned around, Sarah had seemingly made up her mind. Over the next seven episodes, she droned on about his lack of tattoos, all while skirting around what was clearly the real issue – his larger body type. She later confessed to never having slept with a larger man, going as far as to say that her feelings might have been different if he were slimmer.
Things came to a head during episodes seven and eight as Sarah jabbed at her husband to practically every other cast member, earning a well-deserved scolding from the experts. But while the couple seem to be committed to continuing on the journey together, her comments have clearly left a mark on glaring green flag Dean.

Sarah’s comments on MAFS UK hurt Dean
Though Sarah had earlier addressed some of her comments, suggesting not all their touching moments made it to air, Dean offered his own reaction ahead of the first commitment ceremony in Tuesday night’s episode.
In a video posted on Tuesday morning, he said: “Hello you lovely lot. I wanted to send a message to say thank you for all your kind words and support. A lot of you are saying don’t change, be who you are and stay true to yourself. I can’t lie, yesterday was a tricky one, it was tricky to watch, but your love and support has been very well received and it has helped to put a smile on my face.

“I’m usually sunshine and rainbows all the time as much as I can be. Sometimes you can’t be, but you try to be when you can. I know you guys are definitely helping to put the smile back on my face so thank you so much.”
During the dinner party, Sarah rudely compared him to a Care Bear in a moment that perfectly illustrated what she was darting around. Despite that, Dean told his followers that he’d much rather be the Care Bear than the “bad boy” Sarah wanted.
“I’d much rather be a care bear than a bad boy any day of the week, so don’t worry I won’t go changing who I am, and thank you once again for all the kindness and the love,” he added.
“There’s too much meanness and not niceness in this world, so just keep being positive and happy, and keep smiling. Life at life before life laughs at you. That’s what my granddad always used to say.”
People begged him not to change in the comments

For once, most people seem to agree that it was the way Sarah approached the issue that was the problem. Having a type, or not being attracted to your partner, is nothing new on MAFS, but it was her unwillingness to persevere that had people siding with Dean. Oh, and just being all around nasty about her husband.
“What a lovely person you are. Don’t change for anyone, be your beautiful self. I would love my daughter to bring someone like you home,” one person wrote.
“You are the nicest, genuine soul,” another said, as a third added, “Don’t ever ever change! You’re one of a kind! The world needs more kindness.”
