  • The Madlanga Commission will resume its hearings on Monday, 13 October 2025.
  • Crime Intelligence Boss Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo will not testify during this phase due to his illness.
  • Some hearings may be held in camera because of the sensitive nature of the evidence to be presented.

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, better known as the Madlanga Commission, will resume its hearings on Monday, 13 October 2025.

President Cyril Ramaphosa established the Commission following explosive allegations by KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Mkhwanazi accused politicians of interfering in police work, making it hard for the men and women in blue to crack some cases. Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu was also implicated during Mkhwanazi’s media briefing.

Mkhwanazi further accused the Deputy Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya, of influencing Mchunu to disband the Political Killings Task Team in KZN, which was already yielding results.

Sibiya is allegedly a good friend of controversial businessman, Vusi Cat Matlala, who’s currently behind bars for an alleged attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane.

In a statement released on Friday, the Commission announced that due to the sensitive nature of the evidence to be presented, its evidence leaders will apply for the hearings to be conducted in camera, in a closed session with no media or public access.

“If the Commission grants the application, the hearings will then proceed in camera until further notice. The Commission remains committed to transparency and accountability, and should circumstances permit, the mode of hearing will be reviewed,” the statement read.

The Commission has confirmed that Crime Intelligence Boss, Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, will not testify during this session.

Khumalo, who testified for three days last week before falling ill, is still expected to provide evidence for two additional days. However, the Commission’s spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, confirmed that he is not the next witness to take the stand.
