Not every player who played for the Springboks in 2025 coined it big.
The Springboks get paid per Test match. More specifically, each player is paid for being named in Rassie Erasmus’ match-day 23.
As previously reported on The South African, the PONI (Players of National Interest) figures have been disclosed by SA Rugby.
Simply put, the fewer times you’re selected, the less you earn in match appearance fees.
So, with this in mind, let’s take a look at which of the 49 Springboks selected in 2025 banked the least in monetary terms.
‘LOWEST’ PAID SPRINGBOKS IN 2025
Evan Roos, Salmaan Moerat and Makazole Mapimpi each played just one Test each for the Springboks in the 2025 season.
So, each player made R118 197.93 for that match, making Roos, Moerat and Mapimpi the ‘lowest’ paid Springboks in 2025.
Jean-Luc du Preez also ran out just once for South Africa this season.
However, it was in their first game of the season against the Barbarians which is not classified as an official Test match.
This list does not include players who were unavailable due to injury. The likes of Cameron Hanekom, Elrigh Louw, Trevor Nyakane, Frans Malherbe and Deon Fourie were unavailable for selection due to long-term injuries that saw them ruled out for the whole season.
STARK CONTRAST IN SPRINGBOK EARNINGS THIS SEASON
The highest-paid Springboks player in 2025 has also been revealed – and his identity may surprise you.
Prop Wilco Louw took home a cool R1 536 573.09 for his 13 Test matches in 2025.
Meanwhile, World Rugby Player of the Year, Malcolm Marx, fan-favourite Sacha Feinberg MngomeZulu, scrumhalf Cobus Reinach and lock Ruan Nortje were all among the Bok top-earners this season.
Marx, MngomeZulu, Reinach and Nortje all earned over R1.4 million for their 12 Test appearances this season.
They were followed closely by Springboks captain, Siya Kolisi, Damien de Allende and Canan Moodie who all banked over R1.3 million.
