Residents of Johannesburg’s western suburbs are about to experience everyday low prices at the first Walmart-branded store in South Africa.
The global retail giant is officially opening shop at Clearwater Mall.
This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the store in South Africa.
EVERY DAY LOW PRICES TO GRACE JOHANNESBURG
The new store brings Walmart’s “Every Day Low Prices” philosophy to local shoppers, promising consistent value without waiting for flash sales or seasonal discounts.
“We’re thrilled to bring customers on the West Rand Walmart’s promise of Every Day Low Prices, together with a world-class assortment and shopping experience, both in-store and online,” said Miles van Rensburg, Massmart president and Chief Executive Officer.
“It’s an experience that blends the best of global retail with a proudly local touch,” he added.
CLEARWATER MALL WALMART STORE OFFERS LOCAL AND GLOBAL VALUE
The Clearwater Mall Walmart store features bright lighting, wide aisles, and a smooth layout designed for convenience.
Shoppers can expect a broad range of groceries, fresh produce, apparel, electronics, and homeware.
The global giant says it has shown its commitment to community investment with supporting local suppliers.
The commitment is complemented by curated international brands such as Drew Barrymore’s Beautiful appliance range and confectionery favourites like Reese’s and Nerds.
The store will employ over 80 associates, contributing to local job creation and skills development in Johannesburg’s retail sector.
MEET SOUTH AFRICA’S FIRST WALMART STORE MANAGER
The store’s manager is Onicca Mothapo, a seasoned retail professional with more than 20 years of industry experience.
“Opening this store is deeply personal,” said Mothapo. “From where I began my career as a store cashier, I could never have imagined that I would one day grow to become store manager for the first Walmart store in Africa. I’m looking forward to opening the doors to a customer-focused store that offers exceptional service, Walmart’s Every Day Low Prices and that cares deeply about our local community,” she added.
The company says Mothapo’s operational excellence and people-first leadership align with its global brand.
The store will open its doors in the coming weeks.
