The scariest night of the year is fast approaching. Lucky for us students, Halloween will take place on a Friday, transforming the whole weekend into a spooky, scary bender. This will also give you plenty of time to rest and recover, and I reckon you’ll need it. Honestly, nursing a hangover in a 9am lecture is scarier than anything to do with Halloween.
Some people like to dress cute and aesthetic, and others like to go full-on horror. However, our KCL-themed costumes will guarantee you first place at any costume contest. Rather than doing something basic and overused, why not take our suggestions and become the coolest person attending any event? Be prepared for a bunch of hocus pocus.
Reggie the lion
@laurenndefelice Team scar
#halloween #scar #halloweencostume #lionking
Starting off with Reggie, our very own KCL mascot. Celebrate your Halloween night wearing the most iconic Kings College costume. It’s cosy, bold, and has main character energy written all over it.
There are several ways in which you can transform yourself into Reggie. Try buying a lion costume, like the ones used in sports competitions. Alternatively, you could be more stylish with a mini skirt paired with a corset. For that extra KCL flare, add a little something that you bought in freshers from the union shop.
Abba
@cecilieevita @IBBA
#halloweencostume abba
I swear everyone has a class on Waterloo this year. Couldn’t escape if you wanted to. For a fashionable look, everyone’s favourite campus can be represented by an Abba-themed costume. Time travel straight to the 70s with flared jeans, ruffled blouses, shiny sequins, and chunky platform boots. Be the star of the show while boogying all night; you can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life.
Honourable mention: Sing along to Waterloo and dress up as Napoleon Bonaparte or Duke of Wellington.
Lenny the cat
@apes1333 Featuring @MOTEL #motelrocks #halloween
A unique and cute costume idea could be Lenny the cat. Chief mouser of Guy’s Campus, also known as our lord and saviour. You can look for inspiration on Lenny’s Instagram profile. Pair this costume with some cat ears, a white top and a black skirt or leather trousers. It’s a quick and easy costume but insanely chic.
Rosalind Franklin
@ailish.reilly going 3 for 3
i’m a scientist #halloween #halloweencostume #fyp #scientist #ootd
Combine brains and glamour with a costume inspired by Rosalind Franklin, a KCL icon. She was vital in capturing a detailed image of DNA, including photo 51. Dress up as the researcher with a pixie cut wig and lab coat or be creative with a DNA costume. Showcase to everyone the scientist in you, even if you’re an English student.
The Vault
@lexy.troll needed to post this is a real video #halloween #robber #fyp
From quiz nights to jazz nights and many hours spent on the couches, our beloved student bar The Vault is always there for us. In honour of this KCL staple, another great outfit could be a bank vault, to remind you of the place where you lost all your student loan. To keep with the money theme, you could be a robber or the monopoly man, a more subtle homage.
If you really want to be quirky, you could dress up as a pint of beer.
Dover Castle Pub
@lynchbty7qw anyone need saving?
#wonderwoman #halloweencostume #fyp #wonderwomancostume
Everyone enjoys Wednesday sport nights at Dover Castle pub. If you love the pub, then you could dress as your favourite DC character, like Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Be the hero of the night, you know you want to.
A king

I mean, we do go to King’s, so if you’re a history fanatic, dressing up as your favourite king might be the ideal solution for you. Some examples may include Louis XIV or Henry VIII. If you’re not that interested in history, you could always dress up as a fictional king like Joffrey from Game of Thrones or King Arthur.
The Courtauld
@paolatran Vincent Van Gogh and The Starry Night
#starrynight #vincentvangogh #couplecostumes #halloween
The Courtauld in Somerset House is a great place to spend your free time. Recreate your favourite painting or piece of art in The Courtauld for an intellectual and stylish costume. To go all out, wrap a band-aid around your ear and transform into the mad painter Van Gogh. Perfect for a haunting night.
