Police in Lebowakgomo, under the Capricorn District, have opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following an incident at a secondary school in Seleteng village on Sunday, 26 October 2025, at around 04h30.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 19-year-old male learner was allegedly assaulted by an 18-year-old female Grade 12 learner while they were camping at the school in preparation for their final examinations.
According to police, the complainant was sleeping in one of the classrooms when the suspect approached him and accused him of touching her private parts. The complainant denied the allegations. The suspect reportedly left but later returned and poured boiling water on him.
The victim sustained burn injuries and was taken to hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. No arrests have been made at this stage, and the investigation is ongoing.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, strongly condemned the incident and emphasised the importance of a thorough investigation.
“We take incidents of violence, especially among learners, very seriously. Such acts have no place in our learning institutions and must be dealt with decisively. The investigation must uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident so that justice is served,” Major General Scheepers said.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
