About the Internship
The Graduate Intern Social Worker will report to the Hospital Manager and function as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) delivering quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective treatment and rehabilitation services. This role is ideal for graduates seeking structured exposure in clinical social work within a healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities (Critical Outputs)
- Contribute to and maintain the facility programme as a member of the MDT
- Participate in patient programme planning, reviews, and adjustments
- Drive patient admission and discharge processes
- Conduct assessments and develop care plans and Individual Development Plans (IDPs) with the MDT
- Ensure compliance with Department of Social Development disability policy and relevant legislation
- Liaise with external stakeholders and referral agencies
- Support marketing initiatives, advocacy events, and community education programmes
- Participate in continuous professional development activities
- Attend and contribute to MDT meetings
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12
- Degree in Social Work
- Current registration with SACSSP (South African Council for Social Services Professions)
- Valid driver’s licence
- Knowledge of legislation and policies related to mental health care (advantageous)
