Sony Pictures has secured the rights to adapt Labubu, the scruffy Chinese doll brand, into a feature film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The deal was finalized this week, but no producer, director, writer, or cast member has been announced yet.
It’s also unclear whether the project will be live-action or animated.
For those who haven’t been swept up in the craze, Labubu is a wide-eyed, toothy plush toy designed by artist Kasing Lung and made wildly popular by Chinese toy giant Pop Mart.
The collectible has become a must-have item globally, known for its eerie-cute expression and limited-edition drops that often sell out in minutes.
With Sony now developing a movie adaptation, Labubu is poised to break out of niche collector circles and into full pop culture stardom, cementing its place as one of the most unlikely and lovable icons of our time.
Stay tuned for more details as they unfold.
