- KZN Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma has issued a stern warning to truck owners under the #NenzaniLaEzweni campaign.
- The province is tightening its grip on unroadworthy trucks and undocumented drivers.
- Several arrests were made during a major operation along the N3 in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.
MEC for Transport and Human Settlements in KwaZulu-Natal, Siboniso Duma, has warned truck company owners that they will be locked up under the #NenzaniLaEzweni campaign if their trucks are driven by illegal migrants or are not roadworthy.
The operation was underway along the N3 in Pietermaritzburg for the entire day on Saturday.
Significant arrests were made, and Duma says these arrests are a clear indication of zero tolerance for fraudulent drivers and unroadworthy trucks that place everyone’s lives at risk on KZN roads.
Here are some of the arrests that were made:
● Arrest of three undocumented foreign nationals (Malawi)
● Massive racket involving foreign truck drivers with fraudulent driver’s licenses (Swaziland)
● One truck suspended
● Taxi driver from Mozambique without a route permit transporting passengers — some of whom are Malawians from Ermelo to Durban
● Execution of eight warrants of arrest
