Kruger National Park introduces gate quotas amid flooding

Visitors to the Kruger National Park will face restricted access with immediate effect after heavy overnight rainfall caused further damage to roads and infrastructure inside the reserve.

SANParks has introduced a gate quota system at several entrances to manage traffic and ensure visitor safety as wet conditions persist.

Gate quotas introduced at Kruger National Park

According to SANParks, the gate quota system is now in place at:

  • Malelane Gate
  • Numbi Gate
  • Paul Kruger Gate

All open safari vehicles (OSVs) are included in the daily quotas.

SANParks has urged visitors to arrive early and to ensure their vehicles have enough fuel, as fuel stations inside camps may be affected by the ongoing rain.

Only essential delivery vehicles, airport transfers with valid flight tickets, and official vehicles will be allowed through Paul Kruger Gate. No exceptions will be made at other gates.

Road closures inside the park

Several routes and gates also remain inaccessible due to flooding:

  • The Skukuza to Phabeni Gate route is closed after flooding cut off access along the S1 road
  • Phabeni Gate cannot be accessed via Skukuza
  • Orpen Gate remains closed until further notice due to safety concerns
  • The entire northern section of Kruger National Park remains closed, with all northern gates inaccessible

SANParks said it is closely monitoring weather conditions, road safety and infrastructure damage, and will provide updates as conditions change.

Visitors with bookings are advised to check official SANParks channels before travelling to the park.
