Kaizer Chiefs FC look set to prematurely part ways with one of their struggling attackers.
Naturena is a tough place to crack it. And while a handful have become household names at the club, many players have struggled to carry the weight of the Amakhosi jersey.
It’s not always for a lack of talent though. Sometimes injuries, sometimes competition for places and sometimes it’s simply not fitting into the coach’s system.
At a club like Kaizer Chiefs, the pressure is always on. More especially on strikers who are judged by solely scoring goals. And now, it appears one of the club’s attackers may very well leave the club permanently.
Morris set for ‘uncomfortable’ talks with Kaizer Chiefs
Tashreeq Morris joined Kaizer Chiefs from SuperSport United at the beginning of the year with high expectations.
Morris was in decent form at Matsatsansta, scoring two goals in 10 appearances for the club. His performance particularly against Chiefs where he scored the winning goal for United was enough to seal him a dream move to Naturena.
The 31-year-old striker enjoyed good game-time in his first six months at the club. However, the start of the new season in August painted a completely different picture.
In total, Morris has featured for just one minute for Kaizer Chiefs this season. Yes, one minute in a cup game against Stellenbosch where he was brought on in the dying minutes just before a penalty shootout.
Unfortunately for him, he went on to miss his penalty kick. Dillon Solomons also missed his kick which resulted in Chiefs being knocked out of the cup in the very first round.
Now, according to the latest reports, the Glamour Boys are set to begin talks with Morris over his future at the club.
No loan move for Morris?
Kaizer Chiefs and Tashreeq Morris are set to hold an ‘uncomfortable’ meeting in the coming days.
“The Siya crew understands that there is no talk of loan options being discussed at this stage, with the Mitchells Plain native forward’s camp keen to find a solution that is “in the best interest of all parties”. Indications are that the meeting over Morris’ future is set to be uncomfortable, with mutual separation talks not ruled out,” a SoccerLaduma report read.
Morris has made a total of 11 appearances for Chiefs. He has no goals or assists yet for the club. He has a total of 216 PSL appearances to his name. With that comes 33 goals and 14 assists. He also has three Bafana Bafana caps to his name.
