Kaizer Chiefs coaches accused of favouritism

Kaizer Chiefs legend Abel Shongwe has accused the club’s co-coaches of favouritism.

Since the sacking of Nasreddine Nabi in September, Amakhosi appointed Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef as caretaker coaches until the end of the season.

The duo worked under Nabi last season, helping the Soweto giants claim their first trophy in 10 years.

Under Kaze and Ben Youssef, Kaizer Chiefs have been inconsistent but have done well in the CAF Confederation Cup, having reached the group stages.

Shonge is not convinced about the coaches, accusing them of favouring Aden McCarthy over the more experienced Zitha Kwinika.

“Zitha Kwinika was starting; he was doing well, but now he is starting on the bench just because Inacio Miguel is back. For what good reason?” Shongwe asked as per KickOff.

“Or just to bring the left-footed Aden McCarthy? That’s what kills a team: sidelining players who are playing well just because your favourites are now fit to play.

“Kwinika was playing well and even captained the team. Why is he now being benched? For what good reason?” he asked.

Kaizer Chiefs have not found their right combinations

Amakhosi are yet to find their balanced starting eleven and Shongwe feels this has led to inconsistent results this season.

He felt Glody Lilepo should not be starting big games and would be better off coming from the bench.

“Glody Lilepo, he still needs to be benched. He’s been doing well, but in the biggest games, he is not doing it for Kaizer Chiefs. His decision-making is his biggest problem,” Shongwe said.

“Where he is supposed to pass the ball, he attempts to score, and where he is supposed to score, he attempts to score. These coaches have to help the players.”

Do you think the two coaches at Chiefs are on the right track?
