Kaizer Chiefs announce the 21 players going to Congo

Kaizer Chiefs have named a 21-man squad to travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the CAF Confederation Cup against AS Simba.

The Phefeni Glamour boys are heading to Lubumbashi with a strong mix of experience and new faces.

Amakhosi face the Kolwezi-based club on Saturday afternoon at the Stade TP Mazembe. Kick-off is at 15:00, with a spot in the group stages up for grabs.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO LUBUMBASHI

New midfield arrival Lebohang Maboe is set for his long-awaited debut after cracking the matchday squad for the first time.

Upfront, Etiosa Ighodaro has stayed behind in Johannesburg as he continues to sharpen his fitness, while young duo Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, both registered for CAF duty, have surprisingly missed the cut for this trip.

After a minor knock, Ethan Chislett is fit again but will also watch this one from home.

Siphesihle Ndlovu is back from the treatment room, while Rushwin Dortley, Given Msimango, Thabiso Monyane, and Paseko Mako remain injured.

The return leg takes place next Saturday, 25 October, at Dobsonville Stadium, where Amakhosi will look to finish what they started.

Victory over the two legs would book Kaizer Chiefs a place in the group stages, effectively the last 16, featuring four groups of four teams each. The top two from every group move on to the quarterfinals, the business end of the competition.
