The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has condemned United States airstrikes carried out in northwest Nigeria, describing the attacks as a violation of African sovereignty.
In a statement, the party said the strikes, conducted on Christmas Day and presented by Washington as “counter-terrorism operations”, amounted to what it termed “American military imperialism on the African continent.”
Foreign involvement
The EFF criticised the Nigerian government’s response, accusing authorities of endorsing foreign military intervention rather than defending the country’s sovereignty.
The party warned that continued foreign military involvement risks turning Africa into a battleground for global powers, particularly if regional institutions fail to act.
Play a more decisive role
According to the EFF, African-led solutions are essential to address security challenges on the continent, and bodies such as the African Union and regional blocs must play a more decisive role in preventing external military interference.
The statement adds to ongoing debates around foreign military presence in Africa and the balance between counter-terrorism efforts and the protection of national and continental sovereignty.
