  • All major roads in Johannesburg have reopened after temporary closures for a joint law enforcement operation.
  • Multiple policing agencies collaborated to manage the security exercise across key highways.
  • Authorities will continue monitoring traffic to ensure safety and smooth flow.

All key routes and arterial roads across the City of Johannesburg have been fully reopened to traffic following temporary closures enforced as part of a coordinated Joint Law Enforcement Operation on Saturday, 15 November 2025.

The road closures, which have been described as critical security and traffic management measures, were conducted in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS), Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP), the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), and members of three metropolitan police departments: Johannesburg (JMPD), Tshwane (TMPD), and Ekurhuleni (EMPD).

The operation was successfully concluded by Saturday afternoon.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that motorists may now resume using all previously affected routes.

“Rolling closures and intermittent disruptions implemented on major routes including sections of the N1, M1, and N12 have officially been lifted,” said Fihla.

Although the coordinated operation has ended, law enforcement officials will continue to maintain heightened visibility to monitor traffic flow, prevent congestion, and ensure ongoing safety and compliance.

“We express our sincere appreciation to residents and motorists for their patience, cooperation, and adherence to advisories throughout this period of essential security measures. Your support ensured a smooth and incident-free operation,” Fihla added.
