‘It’s down to me’ – Premier League champion forced to apologise after getting into bust-up at Oktoberfest

TWO-TIME Premier League winner Leroy Sane has voiced his regrets – after taking part in a scuffle at Oktoberfest.

The German international winger spent four years with Manchester City, also winning an FA Cup and three League Cups.

Sane left the Etihad for Bayern Munich in 2020, and quit the Bundesliga champions for Turks Galatasaray in June.

The 29-year-old returned to Munich for the city’s annual beer festival at the weekend.

But he was involved in a dust-up late on Sunday night after reportedly being taunted by Bayern fans.

German newspaper Bild said a posse of security guards had to wade in after 11pm to restore order.

Sane revealed: “I was in the wine tent, and was getting provoked and insulted for a long period of time.

“Even my club, Galatasaray, was being slandered.  The atmosphere was getting overheated.

“Someone then shoved me, and a brief scuffle broke out.

“Of course I should have reacted in a more relaxed way, and let it all go in one ear and out the other.

“It’s down to me – I accept that.”

Christine da Silva, a spokeswoman for the wine tent organisers Kuffler Group, confirmed the fracas had taken place.

“There was a small security incident in the gallery on Sunday night,” she said.

“The security staff managed to talk those involved out of continuing the issue, and resolved it peacefully.

“It wasn’t necessary to call the police.”

Essen-born Sane has won 70 Germany caps, scoring 14 goals.

City paid Schalke £46,500,000 for him in 2016, and he struck 39 times in 135 appearances.
