Ireland fans outraged at sky-high ticket prices for Springbok Test

Irish rugby supporters have taken to social media to express outrage over the sky-high ticket prices for Ireland’s upcoming Autumn internationals at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin this November – especially against the world champion Springboks.

Andy Farrell’s men are set to face Japan (November 8), Australia (November 15), and South Africa (November 22) at home, following a one-off Test against New Zealand in Chicago.

However, a small release of additional tickets by the IRFU this week revealed eye-watering prices that many say exclude average fans.

  • 🏉 South AfricaCheapest ticket: €156.60 (R3 120)
  • 🏉 AustraliaCheapest ticket: €126.60 (R2 520)
  • 🏉 JapanCheapest ticket: €81.60 (R1 625)

“Disgusting” and “Unfair”: Fans React

Many lifelong fans are now calling the pricing “extortion” and accusing the IRFU of prioritising profits over supporters.

“€156 just to watch a rugby match? This isn’t just unfair; it’s extortion,” one fan wrote.

“If the Irish rugby public initiate a collective boycott of this series, then the suits in the IRFU will have absolutely deserved it. Disgusting!”

Another added: “Genuine supporters are being priced out. All about the €€€€, IRFU don’t care about supporters anymore.”

A third fan lamented: “€126 per ticket… then you’ve to get there!! So sad for grassroots fans.”

Big Matches, Bigger Prices

The fixture against reigning world champions South Africa is seen as a premium Test, but even the Japan game – considered the least high-profile of the series – comes with a minimum ticket price of over €80.

No official comment has yet been made by the IRFU regarding the backlash.

Despite the high prices, the clash between Ireland and South Africa is reportedly sold out.
