Walmart is officially opening its first public stores in South Africa, and it’s bringing global favourites that local shoppers have never seen on shelves before.
The retail giant confirmed its debut outlet will open at Clearwater Mall on Johannesburg’s West Rand.
Walmart plans to introduce South Africans to international brands not previously seen in the country, as well as a “world-class shopping experience” built around Walmart’s famous Every Day Low Prices philosophy.
Global brands coming to Walmart in SA
The Clearwater Mall store will combine local sourcing with exclusive international brands, Mybroadband revealed, offering a wide range of products spanning groceries, frozen foods, health and beauty, homeware, apparel, baby products, electronics, sports and outdoor equipment, and toys.
Among the global brands debuting in South Africa is Drew Barrymore’s ‘Beautiful by Drew‘ range of kitchen appliances, which will include air fryers, blenders, kettles, toasters, and stand mixers.
Shoppers will also find international confectionery favourites rarely seen locally, including Reese’s, Mike & Ike, Warheads, and Nerds, giving local sweet tooths a taste of global variety.
Fourways Mall store location
As previously reported, another Walmart-branded store will also be opening at Fourways Mall, replacing a Game store that has been closed for several months.
Walmart revealed to Mybroadband that while it will convert some existing Massmart stores into Walmart outlets, it also plans to open entirely new locations as part of its South African expansion.
Massmart president and CEO Miles van Rensburg said Walmart’s arrival represents a defining moment for local retail.
“Since announcing the arrival of the first Walmart-branded stores in South Africa, the excitement has been incredible,” Van Rensburg said.
“Our team is proud to deliver this new and meaningful chapter in South African retail.” he added.
The company emphasised that its goal is to ensure customers always save money when shopping, not just during limited promotions, and that Walmart’s value-driven model will be fully reflected in its South African stores.
