Announcing her departure in a heartbreaking statement shared on Instagram, Lola said she hopes her followers will give her a “second chance”.

“I’m going away for a while. It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future. Thank you for all the love and support.

“I’m so sorry to let anyone down who has bought a ticket to see me, it hurts me more than you know.”

Here The Sun looks at the 24-year-old’s secret struggles – from a mental health diagnosis to an ongoing nepo baby row.

Rehab stint

Last year, while Lola’s biggest hit was climbing up the charts, she was checked into a rehab facility for an addiction to cocaine.

It’s thought she was admitted last November and the drug addiction swamped the singer for “a long time”, she said in a recent interview.

Before the new year, Lola was back in showbusiness, performing for Jimmy Fallon in the U.S. and for a radio station in Australia.

“It’s been a struggle – I’ve definitely had to work on some internal healing while grappling with touring and stuff,” she told the Guardian.

“I’ve had to be away for a bit while battling with things. But it teaches you a lot, being addicted to substances. It makes you more empathetic about other people that have gone through that. It’s just a constant journey.”

Bodyshaming hell

Lola once heartbreakingly admitted that she ‘hated’ her body after trolls flooded her social media accounts with cruel comments.

She’s been open about struggles with feeling positive in her own skin, once telling her 1.8million Instagram followers to “be kind”.

Uploading a skimpy bikini shot in 2023, the singing star wrote: “I’ve gone through the motions of loving and utterly hating the body I’m in.

“I wanted to come on here confidently and say that it’s never easy loving yourself in a world that tells you to constantly hate yourself.

“I’ve gone on a little holiday to relearn loving my stretch marks, my side rolls, my little bit of belly, yes there are things I still want to change.

“But right now I have learnt that being happy with the body you’re in, in the exact moment it exists is important for happiness and feeling sexy is SEXY.”

Nepo baby backlash

Since her rapid rise to fame, some people have thrown nepo baby allegations at the singer, claims she says are “rubbish”.

It’s thought her famous relative’s connections in the entertainment industry could have helped her climb the charts – and she was furious about it.

Lola’s great aunt is Julia Donaldson, the author of the children’s book The Gruffalo.

“I mean what kind of rubbish is that? I have so much to say on that which I can’t even talk about,” she told Capital Buzz.

“But I’m not a nepo baby, I’m not an industry plant, there we go I said it.

“I’ve cleared that up for all those losers that want to comment rubbish on the internet. Just find something better to do, you’re sad, you’re lonely.”

Mental health diagnosis

It was only a few years ago that Lola revealed her “superpower” to fans when she revealed a devastating diagnosis.

Aged just 17 she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. The condition is a mix of schizophrenia symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, according to the NHS.

Writing on Instagram in 2022, Lola explained: “I have struggled immensely learning to accept this part of myself, and I am still learning.

“I have to remind myself that I am a regular f person, I am human and I am, like everyone, capable of incredible things.

“My mental health condition does not define me. It is my superpower.”

She was diagnosed as a teenager after suffering with depression, initially thinking she had bipolar disorder.

Family tragedy

After revealing her own diagnosis, Lola told fans she had two uncles on either side of her family who battled with their mental health.

Tragically, both of them passed away, she told The Telegraph.

“I have a history of it in the family – my uncle on my dad’s side had schizophrenia, and my mom’s brother had depression, and they both died.”

Lola thinks her own condition was triggered from smoking cannabis, a response to another traumatic event in her childhood.

“I don’t think it’s helpful for me to explain what that trauma was, because it’s very heavy, and very unusual.

“But weed is psychoactive, and when you already have an underlying health condition, it can trigger the brain.”

Overcoming ADHD

The singer describes her song Messy as an “ADHD anthem”.

She’s also been open with fans about taking ADHD medication Concerta, saying it helps her “see mess now and clean things up”.

Speaking online, Lola also claimed Attention Deficit Hyperactvity Disorder there was an “over glamorisation” of the condition.

“Six months ago I started taking Concerta and it has genuinely changed my life. I feel genuinely a lot happier,” she said on social media.

“We should make sure physical health and mental health are viewed on par. Getting a diagnosis can help you understand.”
