SWINGEING cuts to welfare and foreign aid will help save taxpayers £47billion under new Tory plans.
Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride will lay out the ideas in his speech at the Tory conference.
Sir Mel’s measures, also reining in Net Zero, will fuel speculation his party will woo voters with tax cuts.
In Manchester, he will say: “We’re the only party that gets it.
“The only party that’ll stand up for fiscal responsibility.
“We must get on top of government spending.
“We cannot deliver stability unless we live within our means.
“No more pretending we can keep spending money we simply do not have.”
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has to find £30billion to fill the financial black hole at the Budget — as the UK grapples with mounting debt.
But Sir Mel vows to deliver £23billion in welfare cuts if the Tories win power.
Measures include stopping benefit claims for low-level mental health problems.
Ensuring the welfare system is just for Britons will bring £4billion of savings.
The overseas aid budget is in the line of fire with £7billion saved by cutting spending to 0.1 per cent of GDP.
Ex-PM David Cameron pledged 0.7 per cent — which Labour is reducing to 0.3 per cent.
The Tories also say they will save £1.6billion in ineffective Net Zero policies.
And a pledge to remove any migrants who arrive illegally in the UK will save £3.5billion in hotel spending.
The Institute of Economic Affairs said he had failed to address pension costs.
The Office for Budget Responsibility said, in the long run, the pensions triple lock would be “unsustainable”.
Labour party chair Anna Turley insisted: “The Tories want to rehash their failed manifesto to solve problems they have caused.”
