  • TMPD is urging motorists to collect vehicles that were impounded between 2001 and 2024 before they are crushed.
  • Owners must visit the TMPD impound yard in Pretoria Central with valid documents and settle all outstanding fees.
  • Vehicles not claimed by 28 February 2026 will be handed over to a crushing company.

The Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) is calling on motorists to claim vehicles that were impounded between 2001 and 2024, warning that uncollected cars may be crushed.

The department says any vehicle, trailer, caravan or motorcycle not claimed within the stipulated timeframe could be destroyed to recover outstanding impoundment and storage costs.

TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says owners or title holders must report to the impound yard at No. 1 Madiba Street, Pretoria Central, with the necessary documentation, including a registration certificate and valid identity document, and must settle all applicable fees before release.

Municipal legislation allows the City of Tshwane to dispose of vehicles that remain unclaimed after several notices have been issued and the legal holding period of 120 days has lapsed.

The City of Tshwane has set a deadline of 28 February 2026 for owners to retrieve their vehicles from the TMPD impound facility.

Vehicles not collected by this date will be handed over to an appointed crushing company.
