Ah, Joe and Maeve. This MAFS UK couple started off so well. Joe and Maeve even announced they loved each other at a commitment ceremony after only knowing each other for a matter of weeks. Things have really gone downhill since then, though. Joe took off, and Maeve cried at the most recent dinner party. Although Joe has kept pretty quiet about his time on MAFS compared to some of the other MAFS UK 2025 gang (I’m looking at you, Grace and Julia-Ruth), he’s finally addressed his behaviour towards Maeve on the show.
Remember: Joe’s grandfather sadly died while he was filming MAFS. He didn’t attend the most recent dinner party, as he was going to the funeral. Maeve has made it clear to the other contestants that she understood Joe had to leave MAFS UK for a while, but that events in the lead-up to this left her feeling confused as to where their relationship was really going.

In a lengthy statement, Joe apologised for “upsetting people”. He wrote on his Instagram: “Death is hard enough to process at the best of times, but when you’ve had no communication with family and you’re under intense scrutiny in the experiment, it threw me off completely and I really lost myself and my thoughts.
“I am truly sorry for being confused in my feelings at this point and for upsetting people. I take full accountability.
But family was and always will be my number one priority and I have no shame in that.”

For context, MAFS contestants use burner smartphones during filming. They can message each other, but the production team limit how much contact they have with the outside world.
