Former Orlando Pirates winger Lebohang Mokoena has commended his former club for signing Oswin Appollis.
The former Polokwane City winger has been sensational since joining the Buccanners in July. The 24-year-old has already scored four times and provided five assists for his new club this season.
Before the move, Appollis was linked to rivals Kaizer Chiefs but ended up joining Pirates, which surprised a lot of fans.
Mokoena explained why he wanted the Bafana Bafana star to join the Sea Robbers
“I called it, I knew he was going to be perfect for Pirates,” Cheeseboy said on the SoccerBeat.
“When these rumours were going around, you know how Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns all wanted him. But I felt like, because of the type of player that it is, as dynamic as he is, I felt like he would fit in perfectly at Orlando Pirates.
Cheeseboy says he begged Pirates to sign Appollis
Appollis has fitted like a glove at Pirates and is no doubt one of their key players this season, having helped them secure another MTN8 trophy.
Mokoena feels the ex-Rise and Shine winger has been the club’s best signing this season.
“I had been calling, I called and begged the technical team at Pirates, I said: ‘hey this guy, make sure this guy lands at Pirates’.
“Best signing the club has made. Week in, week out, he delivers, and he plays any position; he can be on the left, 10, or on the right. So he’s also become a key figure of the team,” Mokoena added.
Appollis has a chance to win another trophy with Pirates next month when the Buccaneers play Marumo Gallants in the final of the Carling Knockout Cup. The match will be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
