The Micasa trumpeter reflects on 10 years since his dad’s passing

Earlier this week, MiCasa trumpeter Moshe “Mo-T” Kgasoane shared a deeply emotional message as he reflected on a decade since losing his father, the legendary Kgasoane Daniel “Big Dan” Moeketsi, a renowned horn player and founding member of Mango Groove.
In his heartfelt letter, Mo-T described the day as a time to honour beautiful memories rather than dwell on sorrow.
“Today marks 10 years since your last breath into your horn, Dad,” he wrote. “I only have great memories to celebrate on this beautiful day, knowing you are in a happy place.”
He spoke tenderly about the moments he misses most: his father’s laugh, his sharp sense of humour, and the bond they shared through music.
“I miss us playing trumpet together,” he continued. “But most of all, I miss your good heart, Dad.”
For Mo-T, his father’s presence and guidance shaped not only his childhood but also the musician he is today.
He thanked him for the trumpet lessons that formed the foundation of his career and the memories he still holds close.
“Thank you for being present in my life and for all the trumpet lessons. I will forever be grateful and treasure our father-son moments.”
He ended his tribute with a simple, heartfelt declaration: “I love you, Dad.”
