I dined for free in the middle of the UK’s biggest museum – here’s how you can do it too

ITSU has teamed up with the British Museum to offer a rather unique dining experience – and I was lucky enough to try it out.

Solo diners have been welcomed into the serene Japan Room in the museum to have a full dinner, courtesy of the noodle brand.

Being welcomed into the room, it as slightly unnerving at first with the silence, and having the room to yourself.

However, I quickly leaned into it, instead relishing the peach and quiet you rarely get at a bustling London restaurant.

Taking my seat, I took in all of the beautiful exhibits around me while waiting to be served,

I expected perhaps to be given one of their fast food instant noodle pots that you often spot lining the shelves of the supermarket.

But no – I was given a menu with a choice of Katsu curry or chashu pork ramen.

Opting for the latter, it even came with a selection of garnishes and the option for a classic Asahi beer.

I eagerly slurped up the noodles, with the salty broth curing me of my autumn cold almost instantly.

And in the peace and quiet, it also helped me understand why solo dining is so big in Japan, meaning i could take it all in.

Solo dining in the UK is treated like something to be disgusted of but in reality it is a very intimate cultural experience.

Sat in the British Museum with a myriad of priceless items around you is something really special.

Add in dining by yourself and you really get a moment to reflect and understand Japanese culture.

Having travelled to many destinations across the globe, often by myself, solo dining is something that has always intimidated me

And on the occasions I have done it, it feels like it’s been out of a need rather than desire.

But when I am actually there, it is a really great chance to breathe, slow down and enjoy my surroundings.

The last date you can do it is this Thursday (October 9) with more tickets set to be released here, so keep an eye!

And if you don’t manage to get tickets, the new Noodles & Broth instant noodle range has launched in supermarkets, created by MasterChef judge Monica Galetti.
