Huge sum Liam Payne’s family & pals raised for kids with cancer revealed a year after star’s tragic death

NEARLY £250,000 has been raised in memory of balcony fall singer Liam Payne to help children with cancer.

His family asked for donations at the tragic star’s funeral in November last year, we can reveal.

It will help fund a unit combining “pioneering research, cutting-edge treatments and expert care” at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital (Gosh).

A source said Liam’s family asked for donations in memory of the One Direction star on his order of service.

Liam died aged 31 after his fall in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16.

A Gosh JustGiving page stands at £34,292 but it is known almost £250,000 was donated.

A source said: “The majority of donations were done in private.

“I know of two which were substantial to say the least.”

Liz Tait, Gosh’s fundraising director, told The Sun: “We’re so touched by the generosity shown towards Gosh in Liam’s memory.

“Every donation is helping us take another step towards a world-leading children’s cancer centre — a place of hope which will help build the future of children’s cancer care and save more lives.

“It’s a lasting legacy that will make a difference for generations.”

Last year, we told how Liam donated £10,000 in a single night to JustGiving pages for sick children.

In 2022, when asked what he wanted to be remembered for, he replied: “Honestly, just being a nice guy.”

A friend said previously: “He had all this money and, yes, he had fancy things, but he had a burning desire to use his money to do good.

“Even in the weeks leading up to his death, and when he was battling his own demons, he was helping others.

“He was really passionate about being a good person, especially when it came to children. He was like one of his idols George Michael in that respect.”
