How posh really is Victoria Beckham? A comprehensive investigation into her boujiness

Obviously, Victoria Beckham is absolutely loaded now. The new Netflix documentary shows how incredibly fancy her lifestyle is now. Her and David’s net worth is reportedly approaching an eye-watering £500 million. But how posh was Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, back in the day? Here’s an overly detailed investigation into how posh Victoria Beckham’s upbringing really was.

Her parents were definitely rich

Her mum used to be a hairdresser. Her dad Tony Adams used to be an electronics engineer. He started selling electronic items wholesale, and the business really took off in the 1980s.

In that viral moment from Netflix’s Beckham documentary, she described her family as “working class” but then admitted she was driven to school in a Rolls Royce.

She didn’t go to a boarding school or anything

Unfortunately, attending a ridiculously expensive boarding school is still a big indication of poshness in the the UK. Well, if little Tarquin and Tilly Tatlerton-Bridgerton-Smythe  aren’t removed from the real world at the age of four, how else will they develop the elitist attitudes required to maintain the British class system?

Victoria Beckham went to Church of England state school called St. Mary’s High School in Cheshunt (although, the actual school she went to was on a different site to the current one). She then studied dance at modelling at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom.

Now, Hertfordshire and Surrey are generally quite posh, and being able to study dance (as opposed to a more employable subject) is definitely a privilege. But she wasn’t playing hockey with horse girls in a medieval courtyard at an Enid Blyton-esque boarding school.

She grew up in a fancy village

Victoria Beckham was technically born in Essex, but she spent most of her childhood in a village in Hertfordshire called Goffs Oak. According to Rightmove, the average price of a property there in 2025 is £680,162.

Victoria Beckham gave a lil tour of her parents’ house in a 2017 Vogue interview. She explained: “They bought it as a shell and did it all themselves. I remember my mum cooking on a camping stove because we didn’t have a proper kitchen.” The family added more and more to the house as their wealth increased. Apparently it now has a pool, a pond, a playhouse, a tennis court and a grotto. I’m not even quite sure what a grotto is.

Victoria Beckham did once have an ordinary job

Before making it big, she worked part-time for a Wickes hardware shop *gasp*.

The conclusion

So, Victoria Beckham definitely came from a very privileged background. Back in the day, she came across as being boujier than the other Spice Girls. But if we get really judgemental and deep into UK culture, it appears her childhood has middle class and nouveau riche vibes, as opposed to old money posh vibes. I mean, her parents had real jobs! The OG Made in Chelsea cast could never relate to this. I would argue this makes her rich, but not posh. Posh Spice is a much catchier name, though.
