Horror as human bones found on popular UK holiday beach as cops ‘dig through sand’ near sauna

HUMAN bones have been discovered on a popular UK holiday beach with cops launching an urgent investigation.

The grim discovery was made on Saunton Sands beach in North Devon on Saturday afternoon.

Police raced to the scene and the beach was cordoned off as a probe into the discovery was launched.

The bones will be examined by a forensic archaeologist to assess how old they are.

Pictures from the scene, taken by a horrified member of the public, show officers digging in the sand.

The investigation at the scene continued into the night as cops swept the area for clues.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Officers were called at 2.50pm on Saturday 11 October following the discovery of human bones at Saunton Sands beach. A scene guard remains in place while the items are recovered.

“These will be examined by a forensic archaeologist to determine their age. Police enquiries are ongoing.”

It is the latest discovery of human bones on beaches in the area.

In May Devon and Cornwall police said what appeared to be human remains were found at the end of Westward Ho! beach in Bideford, North Devon.

And later that same day, further remains were found on the coastline at nearby Appledore.
