The Western Cape is expected to face extreme heat and high fire danger conditions this week, particularly across inland regions, according to the South African Weather Service.
Forecaster Phemelo Zonke warned that “there is a high fire danger alert for the interior of the Northern and Western Cape where runaway veld fires are possible.”
Residents have been urged to avoid any open flames or activities that could spark fires.
Scorching temperatures and high fire danger
Temperatures are set to soar, with Vredendal and Springbok expected to reach 38°C. Cape Town will remain cooler, peaking at 28°C, while George and Mossel Bay will stay mild at 22°C.
“It will be fine over the northern interior of the Western Cape with clear skies overnight,” Zonke said.
Hot days, cool nights
Overnight conditions will be slightly cooler, but the extreme heat is expected to continue into Friday and Saturday. SAWS has cautioned farmers and outdoor workers to stay hydrated and plan for early morning activities to avoid peak heat.
