Here’s what your favourite Halloween costume says about you as a Liverpool student

Halloween is right around the corner, so sickly sweet pumpkin spice lattes and fake fang season it is. The scariest things on campus might be bumping into your awkward first year situationship, or even the queue for Greggs on Brownlow Hill, but there’s nothing spookier than having a messy weekend decked out in cowboy hats and horror movie masks.

Whether you’re ruling the floors of BaaBar in full princess glam, rocking a pair of cat ears, or turning up as a hot pirate again, your favourite costume reveals more about you than you think. Here’s what your choice of spooky season looks says about your personality, party habits, and overall vibe. Brace yourselves.

Any kind of historical glam costume

Think Marie Antoinette updos and Victorian ladies. If this is your favourite costume this year you definitely like classic fairy tales and mythology. You probably love drama, and a bit of chaos, even if that involves being the last man standing on the floor of Dirty O’ Sheas. You pride yourself on being confident and sociable. Your look was prepped weeks in advance, with hours spent on Vinted and Depop, scouring for the perfect corset and glove combo. You happily take the role as unofficial photographer of the group, because you’re the self-proclaimed digital camera warrior on a night out. This costume means you are all about vintage elegance with a touch of mystery, but you’ll still neck a few Raz Bombs on a Monday night.

The whimsical and mythical costumes

You are imaginative, dreamy and love escaping reality. You see Halloween as a chance to bring magic into the real world by dressing as your favourite fairy. You are creative and cheeky, and like being the centre of attention. Anyone could place bets on the fact you loved the A Court of Thorns And Roses series. You love collecting trinkets in charity shops, and you exude serious main character energy. You’ve been known to quote your horoscope for fun – you might even have Co-Star downloaded on your phone. Bonus points if the costume was handmade too – you defo had a fine art course as your back up option.

Your classic spooky costumes

Someone has to rock up to the house party as a witch or a sexy nun, right? No doubt about it, you like to keep the Halloween traditions in place; dark, brooding, and a touch on the mysterious side. You may own black clothing all year round, which others find basic but you argue is a wardrobe essential. You are witty, sarcastic, and deep down love being the one who takes the theme seriously. You love Twilight marathons and have been known to enjoy an episode of both Teen Wolf and The Vampire Diaries, obviously.

The horror movie and villain characters

You are bold, fearless and love to be the one making their own dramatic entrance at the function. You don’t hold out for a cute or mystical look, but prefer a spookier experience that aims for the scare factor. You thrive on shocking people with your bold appearance, but you’re equally hilarious and chatty on group chats. You are also always the nicest in the friend group when the fake blood and creepy prosthetics are off.

Your cult classic pop culture costumes

If this is your chosen favourite costume this year there is no doubt of your fantastic taste and a love for all things nostalgic and 90s. You definitely have Letterboxd and make a point of adding lengthy reviews to your diary every week, so finding a pop culture costume was the only option for you. You have also been known to quote niche film quotes mid conversation, and act surprised when your housemates don’t understand them. You like being unique enough that people can compliment you on your originality, and your degree is most likely, film or media related, naturally.

Any kind of career costume

If this is your favourite costume there is a high likelihood you are playful, and absolutely love a good theme night. You never take yourself too seriously and pride yourself on being self explanatory, it’s all about fun and confidence. You have mastered the art of turning anything possible into a Halloween fit because you’re far too used to dressing up as random fruits for Wednesday social nights. You’re the extrovert of the group, very witty, and usually the one leading the pub crawl.

Your cute and demure animal costumes

You have the ability to throw together an outfit and look effortlessly stylish and cute, but you definitely know it. You never overthink it too much and still look fabulous. You can be flirty, fun and you’re always up for a few photos. You most likely left your outfit to the last minute, but somehow always ends up with the best Halloween photo dump on Instagram every year. It’s giving psychology degree.

The classic superhero costumes

You are energetic, confident and love the spotlight. You also spend time hitting the uni gym and definitely make a point to talk about it. You love teamwork and being the group organiser who secretly thinks they could save the world – and you’re defo a uni sports team’s social secretary.
