Orlando Pirates made some major moves in the previous transfer window and could be ready to go again in January.
Pirates went into double figures in terms of signings in the winter window but still seem to have unfinished business.
Pirates new signings making an impact
In what seemed like a rigorous squad refresh, most of the new signings have already made an impact Pirates. The likes of Sihle Nduli, Sipho Mbule, Kamogelo Sebelebele and Oswin Appollis had an immediate impact. Then Lebone Seema, Tshepang Moremi, Masindi Nemtajela and Yanela Mbuthuma got into the picture.
But having said that, Pirates had one last player that they tried to add to that group on deadline day. That is Stellenbosch FC attacking midfielder Andre de Jong. In the end, the move fell through after the Cape Winelands side failed to find a replacement in time. According to the latest reports though, the Buccaneers are back in the hunt for the New Zealand international.
Former Pirates striker Katlego Mashego believes de Jong would be a welcome addition to the Soweto giants.
De Jong possible transfer endorsed
“He is a good player. He can play as a number nine or number 10, to a certain extent even as a winger. Most of all, he scores goals. I’m sure with the quality that is gonna surround him at Pirates, he will fit in well. De Jong has been consigned to the league for Stellenbosch. He’s had good seasons with them. I don’t think he’s gonna be a bad signing for Pirates. He will help the team. If you sign a player like him, you are strengthening your squad. He’s not going there to take anyone’s place, but he would be going there to add depth. He’s a quality player that can certainly help Orlando Pirates,” Mashego said about de Jong to KickOff.com.
